Exhibition
In 2024 the exhibition
Men, women and their appliances was on display at the Design Museum Den Bosch in the Netherlands.
A selection of 250 different products from the collection was displayed together with their original packaging. From coffee makers to mixers, toasters and hair dryers and much more.
The household devices were shown in combination with more than 100 audio and video devices from 2 other collections.
"In the exhibition Men, women and their appliances, Design Museum Den Bosch uses more than 300
hair dryers, coffee makers, stereo towers and televisions to show how gender-specific role patterns
were created, confirmed and sold from the 1960s onward. Not only the household appliances
themselves, but also their packaging and advertisements tell you everything about the social relations of
the time. The exhibition is a trip down memory lane, but also poses the current, fundamental question:
do new products change people's lives, or do innovations perpetuate existing social patterns?"
It was a unique opportunity for sharing the best items in the collection. The oversized display featuring all the items arranged on the shelves was quite striking and impactful.
I spent a lot of time at the exhibition and hosted numerous visitors for guided tours. The installation of all the devices took 4 days and I'm still surprised and very happy with the final result.
Another highlight was the day when we filmed the exhibition using indoor drones.
